My name is Geoff Diehl, and I’m running for Governor of Massachusetts.

On the following pages of this Website, you can find a lot of information about my vision for Massachusetts and how I want to bring our state forward. But, on this page, please let me tell you a bit about myself and how I got to this point.

My journey actually started not in this commonwealth, but in another one; I’m a native of Pennsylvania. Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I learned the value of hard work, the importance of getting an education, and the virtue of treating people honestly. It’s all part of who I am and what I believe in. At 16, those values led me to earn the rank of Eagle Scout – the highest achievement in Boy Scouts of America. It’s an achievement I’m proud of to this day and one I’ve been proud to share with other Scouts when I attended their Court of Honor as a State Representative.

I went on to graduate from Lehigh University, after which I decided to move to the big city, New York, to pursue a career in advertising and television. In that role, I learned a lot about not just that industry, but also the businesses we supported as part of our job. I found it fascinating to know what made them successful and what they believed they needed to take their business to the next level.

But, more importantly, New York is where I met my wife. One day, on a blind date, I met KathyJo Boss. We fell in love, our romance blossomed, and one year later, we were married. I’m proud to still call KathyJo the love of my life to this day.

In 2001, we decided to move back to KathyJo’s hometown of Whitman to raise a family. I started a new job as an Account Executive at SignDesign in Brockton and then at Poyant Signs in New Bedford. Once again, I appreciated the opportunity to work with other businesses to make them more successful. In the meantime, I devoted time after work to a cause near and dear to my own heart as I helped KathyJo open Boss Academy of Performing Arts in the neighboring town of Hanson.

Aside from my professional work, I found a calling to become active in our community. Eventually, I became a member of the Whitman Finance Committee. In 2007, I stepped forward as a private citizen to oversee the restoration of the historic Toll House sign in Whitman. Part of this work included obtaining underwriting for the project by the Nestle Corporation. I learned the value of public-private partnerships to get important work done on the local level.

In 2010, I decided to run as a Republican for State Representative. I worked hard, and I won. On January 5, 2011, I was honored to be sworn in as a member of the 187th General Court of Massachusetts, serving the people of the 7th Plymouth District (Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman).

As a State Representative, I led the fight for more transparency and accountability at the State House. I worked to increase jobs and send more local aid to cities and towns. I was also a champion of Massachusetts taxpayers and took bold action to protect them from tax hikes.

My service as a State Representative was recognized by several groups. In 2011, I was recognized as an “Emerging Leader” by the State Legislative Leadership Foundation (SLLF). In 2012, I was elected to serve as an Alternate Delegate to the Republican National Convention, representing the 8th Congressional District. I was named as 2016 Legislator of the Year for the Massachusetts Ambulance Association, and in the same year I was elected as a full Delegate to the Republican National Convention.

My efforts to protect taxpayers took on new meaning in 2014. The Legislature had voted to link the Massachusetts gas tax to inflation so that the gas tax would increase automatically every future year. I was appalled. I decided to step forward to lead a grassroots effort for a ballot question campaign to repeal the tax hike. Our group collected 146,000 signatures in favor of the ballot question, and despite special interest groups outspending our team 31 to 1, we won. As a result, we have saved Massachusetts taxpayers from over $2 billion of gas tax increases since then. We were so successful that I was recognized by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) for Campaign Excellence for having the best ballot campaign of the year in 2015.

I appreciated the power of what we, as citizens, were able to accomplish as part of the gas tax repeal campaign. In 2018, I decided to take that spirit and my advocacy on behalf of the people of Massachusetts to the federal stage. I announced a campaign for U.S. Senate, seeking to run against incumbent Senator Elizabeth Warren. I earned the endorsement of the Massachusetts Republicans at their state convention that year and went on to win our party’s primary in September. Even though I was not successful in November, the experience I gained viewing the issues facing our Commonwealth from the national level has remained with me, and I believe it will prove invaluable to my future work as a statewide leader for the people of Massachusetts.

After my Senate campaign, I returned to the private sector, joining TRQ Auto Parts, a division of 1A Auto out of Pepperell MA, as the Director of Business Development. I’ve enjoyed that work, where once again I’ve worked hard to help our company successfully create partnerships with some of the top online retailers in the industry. In the process, I’ve contributed personally to the growth of our company and the creation of additional jobs here in our state.

To this day, KathyJo and I remain involved with many local organizations. I’m a member of the Abington Lions Club, and I’ve served in the past on the East Bridgewater Business Association, the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the BSA Old Colony Council. KathyJo is Director of Whitman Youth Cheerleading, she has been a member of the Whitman Cultural Council and she supports Hanson’s Little League and D.A.R.E. program. We also both serve as elected members of the State Committee for the Massachusetts Republican Party, where KathyJo serves as State Committee Secretary.

I’m running for Governor because I believe in our state and the importance of making Massachusetts a better place to live, work, and raise a family. When I was first elected as State Representative in 2011, the budget that passed in the legislature was $28B. Ten years later, the FY ’21 budget came in at $46Ba 70% increase. I’m not sure I know anyone who has been able to increase their take home pay by 70% in the last decade, so we must pass a budget that eliminates the reckless spending that has taken hold on Beacon Hill and in Washington. We’re already suffering from the high cost of inflation with housing, food and gas due to DC printing money and putting generations of our families in debt. The Diehl Administration will protect your wallet and allow you to enjoy the savings and economic freedom your hard work earned and you and your children deserve.

According to the SBA, there are over 700K small businesses in MA, representing over 99% of ALL businesses. Those private companies employ over 1.5M residents, or 45%, of the people working in the Commonwealth.

During the pandemic of 2020/21, the Baker/Polito administration, backed by the Democratically controlled legislature, deemed the majority of small businesses across the state to be “non-essential.” They imposed regulations which shut down these businesses for months on end, forcing them to furlough or completely lay off loyal workers. At the same time, however, no state employee suffered a lost paycheck or job and large retail corporations were allowed to stay open, enjoying increased revenues and virtually no competition. These disadvantaged small businesses made no income but still had to pay their rent/mortgages and other expenses. When they could open, had to comply with ad hoc rules set by federal, state and local officials and boards.

The Diehl Administration understands that every business is essential to its owners and employees. Working people depend on their employment to feed their families, and no government official should ever choose winners and losers with the small business community.

In 2014, I was proud to lead the effort to overturn Beacon Hill’s attempt to set the state gas tax on a formula that would index it to inflation, guaranteeing that it would never go down and would also never require another representative vote by the legislature. At the time, candidates Baker and Polito supported that ballot question and the people of Massachusetts agreed.

Two terms later, the Baker/Polito administration signed Massachusetts on to the Transportation Climate Initiative (TCI), a regional agreement designed to urge drivers to buy electric cars by raising the price of gasoline until it becomes unaffordable. Conservative cost estimates are between 5 and 17 cents per gallon and could be more, depending on what the unelected new commission decided. And the kicker is that even the Sierra Club has come out against the “cap & trade” scheme, saying that the environmental benefits are negligible, at best. It is such flawed policy that all New England states who were once in it, with the exception of Massachusetts, have dropped out.

TCI may be sold to you by the Administration as a “fee” to energy retailers but is nothing more than another TAX on the people. Commuting costs will increase, food and goods that need to be transported will go up, and even your property taxes will reflect the increased cost to municipalities for the fleets they operate – Police cars, fire trucks and ambulances and school buses.

As your next Governor, I will ensure that the TCI initiative is rejected and that we look for ways to help lower the cost of transportation, through government efficiencies and private-public partnerships.

The attack on the men and women in blue who protect our neighborhoods and cities in this country, and in our state, over the last several years has been shameful. We are seeing a mass exodus of our LEOs from the force, plus a lack of qualified new recruits, because no one wants to put their life on the line when the people who are supposed to have their back – our elected officials – are the ones creating the hostile environment!

In 2021, the Baker/Polito administration issued a series of new regulations on our police officers which only make their jobs more difficult and there is a steady drumbeat by elected Democrats who want to handcuff our Police Officers even more, including an effort to eliminate qualified immunity, which is the only protection that allows public safety employees to do their jobs in the first place!

First responders in Massachusetts need our support, not constant assaults on the resources and protections they need to keep our streets safe. Under the Diehl Administration, there will always be the respect and effort to Back the Blue whenever and wherever it is earned.

In 2018, a Salem Superior Court judge was recorded during a candid conversation with state prosecutors that he was giving a multiple-offending heroin dealer probation, rather than a prison sentence because he knew that the perpetrator was in the country illegally and would be deported if he gave the same sentence he would have otherwise given to a legal US resident. In 2019, as a state legislator, Diehl called for the impeachment of that judge because we cannot have two sets of rules in what is supposed to be the blind justice system in America.

The judges nominated during the Diehl Administration will have a record of legal accomplishment, appropriate temperament, outstanding intelligence, ethical behavior and, above all else, a respect and adherence to the laws that govern the Commonwealth. Activist judges who bend to the court of public opinion over the statutes that protect the people of Massachusetts have no place on the bench.

Over 100 years ago, district courts in each state across the country were able to process immigrants who wanted to be a part of the great nation that is America. If someone from another country met the criteria – had a sponsor, had a job and could understand English – they had five years to apply for citizenship and a state judge could swear them in. Over the years, the federal government and partisan politics took over immigration policy and procedure, creating a quagmire that calls into question the very sovereignty of our country. Lost in the ensuing battles are the thousands of people who are “yearning to breathe free.”

What may be a federal issue is really a state problem and the Commonwealth can be a leader if we make the concerted effort to get everyone on the path to citizenship and across the finish line! The Diehl Administration is committed to helping everyone who wants to become a permanent, legal citizen and live the American dream right here in Massachusetts!

Massachusetts has consistently been at the top in the nation for K-12 education and we boast some of the best public and private colleges and universities in the world. But lately, we have been slipping in some key metrics; most notably, high school graduation rate. And it’s no secret that even the METCO program can’t solve unequal scholastic opportunities across the Commonwealth.

And if we learned anything from the Covid-era response by our state’s department of education, it’s that there was a near complete break-down, initially, in how to deliver consistent, quality education to our children in a remote setting. Private schools quickly adapted to online technology, but it wasn’t until the beginning of the 2021 school year that parents of public school children were given any guidance on how students could access streaming classes and those platforms varied from district to district, creating additional confusion and delay in the their academic development. Plus, we’re still sorting out the emotional and health issues related to policy that was rolled out extemporaneously and with great push-back by leadership within the teachers unions.

The Baker/Polito administration has also allowed state government to strip parents of their rights to medical decision making for their children by mandating the flu vaccine without any input from parents or legislators, and in conflict with much of the data regarding the effects of Covid on young children.

Learning from the past, we must do better for families regarding their childrens’ education. A Diehl Administration will focus on leveling the playing field for children by supporting school choice and increased vocational education opportunities. Remote learning that was developed from the pandemic can be improved upon and used to provide unique and expensive classes that might not otherwise be adopted by a district. We will assist local school boards in improving the public education offered to their students, so that, no matter where our children live, their chances for success are unlimited.
