The Diehl for Governor campaign announced today that it is the first statewide campaign to make a significant donation to help support the 2022 Massachusetts Republican State Convention.
Diehl presented a $25,000 check to Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons.
“I’m excited to participate in the state convention next May as I campaign for the Republican party’s nomination for Governor,” Diehl said. “I am also honored to be the first statewide candidate to make a contribution. Our campaign is building strong support and we are gaining momentum every day. I look forward to a great gathering of fellow Republicans in Springfield next year.”
Diehl also issued a call to Republicans across Massachusetts to unite and get involved in the convention process.
“We have a tremendous opportunity in 2022, but in order to take advantage of it, it is essential that members of our party be united and fully engaged,” Diehl said. “I encourage Republicans across the state to sign up to become a delegate and to take part in the convention process. Full participation makes our party stronger and enhances our chances of winning.”
Lyons expressed his appreciation to Diehl for the generous contribution.
“I applaud Geoff Diehl for his support of our party and his solid commitment to conservative principles,” said Lyons. “In particular, I appreciate Geoff Diehl’s early and emphatic expression of support for our 2022 state convention.
“It’s an exciting time to be a Republican in Massachusetts, and we look forward to not only a great convention but also a very successful election.”
Republican delegates from across Massachusetts gather once every four years for a convention. The purpose of the convention is for the party to endorse candidates for certain Constitutional offices in advance of the state primary. Next year’s convention will be held in Springfield on May 21, 2022. According to longstanding party policy, candidates for Governor are levied a $25,000 convention fee. In order to qualify for the primary ballot, candidates must receive support from at least 15 percent of convention delegates.
Geoff Diehl, a Republican and former State Representative from Whitman, announced his candidacy for Governor of Massachusetts on July 4. His campaign has been steadily building support, focused on a message of making Massachusetts a better place to live, work, and raise a family. Diehl is also well-known for being a fiscal conservative and for successfully leading a campaign against state gas tax increases several years ago.
